Putting a face on homelessness

Scott has an accent that's hard to pin down. If it were a map, it would take you all over the world. One word can contain hints of The Netherlands, Canada, Jamaica and New Zealand, bits and pieces of the places he's been in his 30 years' living on the road.

For most of January, Scott was living at the Occupy Wellington camp in Civic Square. Before that, he was in Gisborne, picking fruit, and he hopes that once a foot injury has healed, he'll be heading down to Central Otago for more orchard work. Until then, the night shelter in Taranaki St is as close to a home as he'll get. It's 3.30pm and, with nowhere better to go, he's waiting for it to open in two hours.
